Below is the recipe for the communion bread used in the observance of the Sacrament of the Lord’s Table, or Holy Communion, at Grace Covenant Evangelical Church. Starting in January 2026, the church shall observe a weekly communion.
Ingredients:
- 8 tbsp All-Purpose Flour
- 3 tbsp Virgin Olive Oil
- 3 tbsp Cold Water
- Salt to taste (optional)
Appliances and Equipment:
- Mixing bowl
- Rolling pin
- Knife or fork

Instructions:
- Mix all ingredients together in a mixing bowl and knead the dough for a few minutes until it is smooth and elastic. (If adding salt, make sure to dissolve it in the water first before adding to the dough.)
- Once the dough consistency is reached, divide the dough into four or five equal parts and roll each into a ball.
- Sprinkle flour onto the rolling surface. Use the rolling pin to flatten each ball into discs, roughly two to three millimeters thick, similar to tortilla wraps.
- Rub or spray oil on the baking tray prior to placing the discs for baking.
- Use the fork or knife to punch the holes on the bread dough.
- Place the dough into a preheated oven and bake the bread for four minute. (Since ovens vary, keep an eye on the baking until bread is slightly brown and crispy.)
- Once bread is baked, take out of oven and let cool prior to storage.
- Serve.
This recipe makes enough bread for over forty people, with enough left over for covenant kids to munch after the worship service.
Options:
- Bake a big round piece for the consecration.
- Depending on how crispy they are, make sure the bread is cushioned with paper towels during transport.
